The Rainbow – the symbol renewal; The promise of change and hope. In the grey depths of winter, in the shadows of worry and fear, through the heavy burden of difficulty; what could be more fitting?
And so from the chill we emerge, and we return to wild places, to unspoiled nature, where the noise of this world can’t be heard. Where the sound of water over rock echoes down the canyon, and naked trees adorn the blue sky overhead.

Wild rainbows on size 18 nymphs..subtle and delicate. The fishing is slow this time of year… but the trout are there… In the slow water, in the deep runs. They never left; we simply stopped coming to find them.
As February fades and winter wanes, we have much to look forward to in the new year. Rising trout and quiet water. Afternoons shared with friends in beautiful places, with hot coffee and cold beer. A little less noise and turmoil, and little more peace and hope. May we all seek, and find, many rainbows this year.

Nice Rainbows Blaine! Looks like winter is loosening it’s grip there in your locale. We’ve got piles of snow about 4 feet tall at the moment. Temperatures raising above freezing during the days and below at night will hopefully provide a slow thaw and not flood things out too much here. Good to see you got out and had some success. I’m looking forward to spring too. UB

p.s. – since I originally wrote this we’ve had much melt (but still large piles along our gravel driveway) – making it a muddy mess until it’s ALL melted and drained away. It’ll be a week or so if we’re lucky till the driveway firms up. Still – good to see spring on the way. I did see some Robins south of me a few days ago – none here quite yet.

Big snow melt and blow out here as well, capped off by a few inches of rain…. but that was a couple of days ago and all sunshine now. Hoping this weekend brings good flow and trout in my net. Hope the same for you!
